Letter Writing :
1. Formal Letter Writing :
It was used to be an important tool in the days when there was no fast mode of communication and people used to write letters to each other. Now a days, Letter writing is very much limited to official purposes and it is not much used for personal uses as we have got many other ways of communication. However in the descriptive exam, we may get either Formal Letter (Application, Complaints etc.) or Informal Letter (like letter to your younger brother or your friend etc) or you may get both. So It's better to be prepared for all the situation.
Now let's have a look at the format of the Formal Letter. Below is the image and you can click on it to enlarge :
The above is the format of the formal letter which you have to follow in the Examination. Apart from the format there are certain things that you have to keep in mind before starting the letter. The SUBJECT of the letter should be short and crisp. It should not be more than one line. And it should also convey the reason for writing the letter.
Now talking about the body, the body of the letter consists of three parts viz. Introduction, Main Content/Issue, and then Conclusion. Once you write a letter for any reason, the introduction part should be such that the person should understand the issue and once he goes further, he should get an idea. After Introduction, the main content should be such that it contains all the details of the issue and the core area for writing the letter. The last part i.e. conclusion, it should be such that if you are writing a letter for any request or complaint, the conclusion should be appealing and requesting.
Above is the technical aspects of the letter writing. Now talking about the whole letter, try to follow the same I-pattern that is being shown in the above picture. And try not to make any spelling or grammatical error.
2. Informal Letter Writing :
Let's now look at the Informal Letter. Below is the image and you can click on it to enlarge :
The informal letter is one of the very easy format and one can easily write it. Informal letter doesn't include any contractual obligation and it purely consists of the feelings mixed with words. It doesnt need any introduction or subject. This letter should include the concern as well as some other things can also be included. Suppose you are writing a letter to your friend asking about a courier he sent, then you can also ask him how is he doing and how is his family doing. It's just an art where you can include a lot of things. In informal letter you can include other topics as well which is totally opposite to the formal letters.
As we have provided you both, try to write as many as possible and in SBI PO Mains, you will have to type the descriptive topics, then do practice it on word so that your typing skills also improves. And if you have any query, then don't hesitate to ask in the comment section.
