Concepts and Tricks on Age

Some points on Age :

(i) If the present age of A is x years then t years ago his age was x-t years and t years later it will be x + t years.

(ii) If the ratio of the age of A and B is x : y then consider the age of A and B respectively as xk and yk years.

(iii) While solving question be careful as data may be pertaining to present year, some years ago or some years later.

(iv) If 10 years ago the age of Ram is x years then 5 years later it will be x + 10 + 5 = x + 15 years.

Trick-1 : If the ratio of the ages of two persons is x : y and the sum of their ages is S then their ages will be respectively x/(x+y)*S and y/(x+y)*s

Trick-2 : If the ratio of the ages of two persons is a : b and the age of the first person is x years then the age of the second person will be x * b/a k years. If the age of the second person is y years then the age of the first person will be y * a/b years

Trick-3 : If the ratio of the ages of two persons is a/b which becomes c/d  after t years then the present ages of first person is :

= (a*difference of years *difference of the numerator and denominator of second ratio)/(difference of cross multiplication of both the ratio)
