Interviews of Various Exams - FAQs

Hello readers… Bankers Adda team once again extend our hearty congratulations to one and all who have succeeded in the written examinations of SBI Clerks, IBPS PO and IBPS RRBs. We are getting many queries regarding the materials and preparation plan for the interviews of the same. You all know that, we have already provided you the capsule regarding the most frequently questions asked in the interviews. We have divided the capsule accordingly into three parts: one being the questions regarding family background; the other regarding banking and the last one being the miscellaneous. We hope that you have found the materials to be useful.

Though we have given it under the IBPS PO interview capsule, almost all the interviews will have almost the same type of questions. By now, you must have got a doubt that: what is this post all about??? Well, this post is about the “frequently asked questions” during the preparation for interviews. Also, we have included the preparation plan to this. Hope, this will clear all your doubts.

Generally, when we hear the word “interview” we get a mixed emotion of fear and excitement at a time. And what if the fear dominates the excitement? Well, this will be definitely a bad thing because if fear grips you, then you find it difficult to concentrate on things you have prepared for; it will definitely create chaos during your interview. So, may it be a fear or excitement, balance them in such a way that they don’t overtake you and start to rule you. This is the first and the foremost thing you have to keep it in your mind.

Coming to the interview panel, it will consist of 3-5 people, most of them having more than 10+ years of experience (sometimes panel may consist of people who have experience equal to our age!!). One among the panel will definitely be a silent observer; it doesn’t mean he/she will do nothing, he observers our levels of confidence, our body language.

“LEVELS OF CONFIDENCE”, let me talk about this for some time! Your level of confidence must be in such a way that even if they confuse you, you must stick on to your answer. Not only that, if you are answering a question make sure that you pitch in a confident way. This is what all they see at. Try to be confident NOT overconfident; there is just a minor difference between these two words. If you say: “I can also Do it” it is confidence; and if you say “I alone can do it” then it is overconfidence.

“BODY LANGUAGE”, the next important thing you have to take care about… There must be a small smile on your face from the moment you enter the room till you leave it. You may think that, it doesn’t make any difference; but it does!! It gives them that you are confident and also it is a sign of greet and shows your nature. Remember that, never wear a plastic smile; you know what I mean, the smile should be a real one. Actually, body language is what defines you. The way you sit, the way you respond, your facial expressions, your hand moments and your eye contact. Your eyes must contact everyone in the sense that: one of the members asks you a question, yet you need to have an eye contact with every person of the panel.

Next will be the way you sit: you need to sit straight; never lean as this shows that either you are not interested or you have a bad attitude. Never scratch your head/neck/nose when they are asking you something or you are answering something; these things show that either you are not confident or you are not caring about what they are talking about. Your hand gestures are also equally important; sit straight doesn’t mean to sit like a statue!

The way you dress also includes one among these things. Be in a formal dress; comb your hair neatly and cut your long nails. These things might be small and silly; but for sure they make a huge difference, because you must have heard the proverb “First Impression is the best Impression”.
This is the intro part and what will be the next stage? All of you know, you have to knock the door before entering the room and ask for permission and when they let you in you have to gently open the door, enter in, and close the door gently. Don’t sit until and unless they ask you to do so and also pull the chair very softly so that it doesn’t make any noise. After these things are done smoothly, there are two chances: one is they may ask you questions and the second one is they may fire questions at you. It purely depends on their moods; if you are at the starting or at the end of the panel you may face the latter one. Hence friends, be ready to face anything and fix mentally for the worst to happen.

“TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF”: This is the first question you will face during the interview. And most of us will be in a sheer confusion on what to answer to this. You need to answer regarding the following things when you are asked this question:

  • Your name, your qualification
  • Your family; Your siblings
  • Your schooling; your achievements (if any)
  • Your hobbies; your strengths & weaknesses

You have to complete all these things within 2-3 minutes (sometimes, they may interrupt you in the middle). Make it as short as possible; your answers must be in such a way that: there will be no question of cross talk from the answers you give. I hope you understand what I mean! Don’t become lazy or over-confident, stating that these questions are too simple to handle. I had done the same mistake in my first interview and you can predict what the results would have been. I am not saying that your marks will solely depend on this; yet, this makes a good impression on them if you answer them in a perfect way! Hence, plan accordingly and try to prepare your answers beforehand.

“WHY BANK AFTER GRADUATION”: This is the next question that is being asked almost in every interview that is being conducted. Especially this question rises if you are from B.Tech/B.E. background. If you have lesser percentages, give it as the reason. If not, you have to make your answer in such a way that it convinces them and there will be no more discussions regarding the same. You need not to search for some answers for this question over the internet and try to by-heart them. You need to have common sense to answer such questions. If you want to know, how to answer such questions, then you can search for, just to take a reference. For instance, let me explain you my case:

Sir, I had the ambition of becoming a Banker; my parents had a dream of myself becoming a Tech graduate. Though this might look a bit of stupid & silly, they were convinced with the way I expressed. So, it depends on you again; think hard to answer in a unique way and get the work done in a style.

“HOW WILL YOUR GRAD HELP YOU IN BANKS”: This question is very common for engineering grads. The first and foremost thing will be that we will be having good communication skills and interaction with people will be convenient for us. The second thing is that, most of us have a sound knowledge about the computers and its softwares. So, if at all a small problem occurs we can try to handle them. These two are main important points in my opinion. If you have any more, you can add in your context.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER:

  • Go in time for interview.
  • Never prepare for anything while you are waiting for your turn nor ask the candidates about the questions being asked
  • Never get the bloody question “Can I?” Instead tell yourselves that “I Can”
  • Be in a formal attire; go as simple as you can
  • Be frank if you don’t know the answers

This is all what I have for you guys. I am ready to help you if you have more queries! Make use of BA & its comment section wisely. People who are new here, welcome to the family and don’t forget to have a look at the “Rule & Regulations of BA” which is given at the right of the page.
